Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

The heart of the therapeutic relationship is that what is shared is confidential. What we discuss is between you and me. The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without the client's written permission. However, the law also provides for a few exceptions relating to extreme situations.

Exceptions include:

    • Suspected child abuse, and dependant adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
    • If a client is seriously threatening harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
    • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they are not able to cooperate, to ensure their safety, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law.

Please know that if ever I felt there was reason to honor one of the above, I would inform you of what I am doing and why.
